What do we do?

District Six Museum tells the story of a displaced community. It draws on the personal and collective memories of those affected by the displacement resulting from the Group Areas Act (1950) during the apartheid years. The telling and creation of stories is at the heart of its work, aimed at giving voice to the cry of "never, never, never again".

Our mission

We are a museum of innovation working with the memories of District Six and other communities affected by forced removals, and supporting the cultural reconstruction and restitution of Cape Town.

Our vision

A vibrant public cultural life built on a dynamic engagement with the past.
