Our vision is of rural communities that have developed to secure their own future welfare, and have a vested interest in the conservation of Africa’s spectacular natural environment and wildlife.

Therefore our goal is simple - to facilitate in the uplifting, up-skilling and empowering of people living in identified rural communities near core conservation areas.

To do this, we build long term relationships with communities and facilitate the delivery of projects that they identify. Working in complete collaboration with community members, government and other stakeholders, we ensure that the appropriate structures are in place to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the projects developed.

Our work is contextualised through its Theory of Change which is anchored by a core philosophical position that “conservation is best achieved by ensuring that the benefits of conservation are shared by the communities that are the stewards of conservation landscapes and seascapes”. Its work is structured into 4 focal areas:

* Conserving Ecosystems - focus on supporting resilient and biodiverse landscapes and seascapes.

* Future Foundations - focus on establishing core community services capacity, with emphasis on primary health care, early childhood development, primary and secondary education and water security.

* Future Leaders - focus on unlocking talent and potential, with emphasis on enabling access to University and other tertiary training and developing environmental awareness and understanding.

* Thriving Communities - focus on nurturing sustainable job creation and small business development, with emphasis on youth and female empowerment as well climate resilience in communities.

Founded in 1992, Africa Foundation is an independent, non-profit, tax-exempt organisation registered in South Africa, the United States and the United Kingdom.
