Ikamva Labantwana Bethu (ILB) creates educational opportunities for most deserving children from Crossroads Township. It is the only independent educational programme currently operating in Crossroads, an often overlooked community with a high rate of crime, gangsterism and drug abuse.
ILB works with learners in grades 4-7 and provides them with daily homework
support, Saturday tutoring sessions, and academic enrichment programmes during the extended school holidays. ILB works with high-potential, committed learners, through partnerships with local high performing high schools, to help students maintain high marks and ensure a successful path to further education, employment, and success.
The programme trains university students from the Western Cape to serve as tutors. Tutors not only improve learners’ academic performance, but also serve as role models who have successfully journeyed from township education to university.
