Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Community Systems Strengthening Programme

In June 2013 expanded our AIDS Orphans, HIV+ & Vulnerable Children’s programme through adding our Community Systems Strengthening Programme. This programme, “aims to improve the wellbeing of families and their vulnerable children through comprehensive and coordinated evidence-based interventions that strengthen the capacity of families and communities to care for vulnerable children in sub-districts and districts with high HIV prevalence, high maternal mortality and a high number of orphans and vulnerable children” http://www.nacosa.org.za/services/programmes.aspx

During a 3 month cycle of our Orphans & Vulnerable Children’s Community Systems Strengthening Programme, 676 Orphans & Vulnerable Children and 306 Families in Crisis receive more than 900 services, such as assistance with Grant, ID & Birth Certificates’ applications, referrals to relevant service providers, transport to clinics, Support Groups, Community Dialogues, Emergency Food Parcels and linen and clothes for those in need.

In November last year this Programme won the Mossel Bay Municipal No more victim summit 2013's Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Category.“We are very happy to see how Heart-to-Heart Care Centre thrives in OVC community systems strengthening.     NACOSA is very proud to have partnered with such a great champion.”~ Mokgadi Malahlela, NACOSA Provincial Manager: Western Cape. ~


We had 158 primary school learners participate in our After School Clubs at three local Primary Schools, TM Ndanda, Isalathiso and Imekhaya.At the After School Care programme, cooked meals are served. Life Skills, homework assistance, sports, crafts, etc. also take place.

For the year of 2013, 133 children received school clothes and 210 children received  stationary packs.
