The funds raised during this campaign will go towards the teams' new cycling kit desperately needed for our representation at races and other public events.
Jonkershoek is famous for spectacular views of mountains, amazing mountain bike tracks and beautiful wine farms. There are about 400 impoverished people living in the valley of Jonkershoek. More than a third of these consists of children between eight and eighteen years of age. Main challenges in the community consist of teenage pregnancy, children dropping out of school, unemployment, lack of hope and ambition, alcohol and drug abuse, as well as a lack of activities to stimulate the children after school and during holidays. Dysfunctional parenting and a lack of activities are probably the main causes why youth get involved in gangsterism and wrong behavior patterns. After some research into the needs of the community and reflecting on our past experience, we are running the following strategic projects at Prochorus Jonkershoek aimed towards youth education and skills development: an Educare Centre, Cycling Whole Life Coaching project and a mentoring group for girls called Dream.
