The Kuyasa Study Fund enables members of Kuyasa Kids Performing Arts Group (Kuyasa Kids) and members of the leadership group of Kuyasa to study at tertiary institutions in South Africa. In other words to provide young people who have proven themselves to be a candidate for future community transformational leadership and who would have not been able to further their studies, the opportunity to do so.
In January 2005 the band called Switchfoot visited Kuyasa and made recordings of the Kuyasa Kids Performing Arts Group (Kuyasa Kids). Switchfoot subsequently made 1,000 CDs for the Kuyasa Kids to sell on their tour to the USA in April 2005. (The purpose of each tour is to recruit support for Horizon International for Aids Orphans in Africa.) It was then decided to put this money into a fund that could be used for study purposes.
Each year from 2005, the proceedings of the sales of the CD's sold on the Kuyasa Kids tour, have been added to the fund as well as donations from other sources.
The Fund has its own bank account separate from Kuyasa Horison Empowerment which consists of an investment part as well as a current account.
Each bursary candidate is carefully monitored and evaluated every 6 months to ensure successful academic achievements. The living conditions and day to day needs are also monitored for sustainability.
