Family Policy Institute is currently developing a research document that will comprehensively answer the question; "why prostitution must not be decriminalized or legalized in South Africa".
The research document draws on hundreds of local and international case studies and research indicating that many nations who formerly adopted the policy of decriminalization or legalization are now reversing the policy.
A survey of street prostitution in Cape Town and surrounds is currently being finalized and will be conducted during February/March 2009. The results will form part of the research document.
The reason for the policy reversal is the explosion of both illegal and legal prostitution, child prostitution and human trafficking. Other criminal activity like drug dealing, money laundering, and violence also increased exponentialy.
