On April 17th I will be donning my trademark bow, lacing up my carbon fiber shoes, and hitting the streets with my eyes set on making it to Boylston Street. Newly out of “retirement” I am beyond excited to announce that I will be running in the 127th Boston Marathon and supporting the Wellesley Scholarship Foundation. As an educator, cross country, and track & field coach this foundation holds a special place in my heart.
WSF supports all students who live in Wellesley and /or are Wellesley high school graduates (including METCO, A Better Chance, and children of Wellesley Public School employees are eligible.)
This race is even more special as it will be my 10th marathon & 5th Boston Marathon. When COVID hit in 2020 I began training and hitting some of my highest mileage weeks ever. Being in peak condition at that time did not matter when there were no races to sign up for.
Fast forward to 2023, I am now newly married, and just bought a house—how time flies. While my schedule may be busier than 2020, I have not lost my love of running (even though it may not be at the volume or pace it was in 2020.)
I am pushing myself to sign up for another marathon, despite always wanting to compare myself to my previous PRs. With the support of my amazing husband, fur baby, family and friends I am looking forward to this experience.
With a new last name and home I am ready to ramp up my training and get ready for my 10th marathon. This training and fundraising block will be a new chapter and I could use your support!
Any amount will make a difference for these students' lives as they enter a new chapter as well. Help me reach my goal of $5,000!!
Be on the lookout for me training along the streets of Natick & Wellesley (pink bow & all!!)
Sincerely,
Cassie (Short) McLaughlin
