Each year our passionate and committed Service Leaders are divided into teams, which are then partnered with 14 schools throughout Johannesburg. In their teams, Service Leaders work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of the children they tutor and mentor. This targeted academic support through an after-school programme we call the City Year Children's Club, provides much needed assistance to learners who are struggling to keep up or excel in the classroom. The results are astounding, with large numbers of the learners who attend the programme not only improving their academic scores, but also demonstrating an increased willingness to contribute and participate in class.

On top of City Year Service Leaders making an impact in schools, they themselves go through an intensive training programme, which equips them with the skills necessary to become actively engaged citizens. Over 80% of the Service Leaders who have graduated from City Year have gone on to find employment, further their education, or start their own business.

How can you help?

We need your assistance in raising funds for one of our teams for 2014! This investment will allow the team to implement their after-school programme, which will impact the lives of hundreds of children as well as community members. It will also pay for the training the team receives, which will contribute to their success once they graduate from City Year.
