SHAWCO, the Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation, is a student-run, community outreach organisation. SHAWCO Health is run by University of Cape Town health sciences students, with a team of volunteer doctors, dispensing nurses and drivers. SHAWCO Health offers free primary healthcare in under-resourced areas around Cape Town. With 850 volunteers seeing 4 500 patients per year over 200 clinics, we keep records of our activities through an online data capturing system. The best testimony to our work, however, is in the countless stories recounted daily detailing how SHAWCO has changed lives. We are seeking to enhance our sustainability through funding of various areas.
