Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (TPNR) is home to a wide variety of both fauna and flora, constantly being protected by the brave men and women of the Timbavati’s Field Ranger core.  With the ever-increasing threat of rhino poaching and wildlife crime, drastic measures over the years have resulted in an increase in the security budget by more than 600%.  Every cent is well worth it.  The TPNR is committed to protecting the fauna and flora of the Greater Kruger for present and future generations.  Our dedicated Field Ranger Teams, work long hours in trying conditions and any additional external support they can get is always appreciated.

Every month each Field Ranger is provided with food rations to assist them whilst out in the field.  These are unfortunately usually dry items or tinned items with lengthy expiration dates.  The reason for this is mainly due to logistical reasons, such as limited fridge space, distance from local supermarkets and the isolated locations in which they are stationed.  The ration packs do provide several of the required vitamins and minerals, but are no substitute for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Vegetables are an important part of one’s diet and are an essential source of nutrients and vitamins, including potassium, fiber, folic acid and vitamins A, E and C.  The health benefits can be discussed at length, but ultimately fresh produce will assist in the overall health of the Field Rangers who work tirelessly to keep our wildlife protected.

Through your support, the Timbavati would be able to:
1. Install and maintain large netted, self-sustainable vegetable gardens at each Field Ranger Picket or base, to supply fresh produce daily,
2. Install rainwater tanks to collect rainwater from rooves, which will provide water for vegetable gardens and established indigenous gardens, and
3. Purchasing of equipment to maintain their Pickets, the Field rangers home away from home.

The Field Ranger Unit remains the thin green line between the protection and exploitation of our wildlife by wildlife criminals.  We require R 80 000.00 for this initiative and all contributions will go directly to this worthwhile cause, greatly assisting in keeping our units healthy and further assisting with the fight against rhino poaching and wildlife crime.
