The Pinotage Youth Development Academy develops 18 – 25 year old, talented, previously disadvantaged South Africans for employment in the wine and fruit industries and related sectors. The curriculum consists of 40% industry-specific vocational training, 40% personal development and 20% practical work placements.
This unique programme follows an agricultural cycle where classroom
learning is immediately embedded in practice and is not based on a traditional
academic year. The curriculum is fully integrated across the value-chain and
combines technical skills with in-programme workplace practicals, and
critically, personal life skills development. Strict workplace policies and
procedures during the programme enable graduates to enjoy accelerated
integration into the world of employment.
The Academy’s uniqueness is built on the creation of a dynamic learning environment through integrating all these aspects with rituals, work practices, and continuous feedback. A critical aspect is psycho-social support which includes coaching and mentoring. It is the innovative integration of this dynamic learning environment that both teaches and models change which students embody in all aspects of their lives.
The Academy is located in Stellenbosch and currently attracts students from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Wellington.
