Through the example of his own life and work, including in the struggle against apartheid,
Desmond Tutu has brought the light of kindness, justice and healing where once the darkness of hate, injustice and cruelty reigned. He has given his all in pursuit of this mission.
Now the time has come, as Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has recently passed on, that his torch be passed on to future generations in order to secure his rich legacy.

We should all help.

A Tutu Legacy Fund (TLF) has been launched to secure Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s example for the future. To strengthen and sustain the fund, your financial support will be appreciated as we open the new “Truth to Power” exhibition, one that not only looks back and learn lessons from history, but aims to empower new activists for fundamental change.

The foundation's work is divided into three strategic focus areas. Donations and funding will be used to sustain our programmes that activate these objectives.

Showcasing Moral & Ethical Leadership

Through our series of TutuTalks, the Foundation hopes to reframe unresolved issues within civil society and uncover what moral and ethical leadership entails. The intention is to not only spread ideas, but also to empower young African leaders.

Where leadership is a responsibility, moral leadership provides values or meaning for people to live by, inspiration to act and motivation to hold oneself accountable through the intention to serve. Role models are needed to take up the baton to enact leadership in action.

Knowledge Legacy Programme

The first-of-its-kind exhibition, titled Truth to Power, is presented by the Foundation in collaboration with the Apartheid Museum. It will launch in Archbishop Tutu’s birthday month this year, as part of the Foundation’s Knowledge Legacy Programme, which aims to use the Foundation’s rich archive to publicise the profound impact Archbishop Tutu has had on the world, through interactive exhibitions and educational material.

Courageous Conversations & Advocacy

The Foundation seeks to advocate for the kinds of hard choices that need to be made and the mindsets that need to be adopted by governments and business interests so that genuinely just, inclusive societies and economies are forged. This advocacy is conducted through the media and a series of public dialogues on difficult, topical issues, including the globally influential, annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture.
