Community Health workers face many challenges as a result of the work they do. They conduct door-to-door visits to provide a range of health services, acting as a link between the clinic and the community. Studies have documented their impact on addressing childhood illness, reproductive health services and access to TB and HIV treatment.

However funding for community health worker programmes is minimal. Despite serving at the forefront of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, screening more than 38 000 people in the Cape Metro alone, community health workers have little access to psychosocial support or training, and may even struggle with insufficient personal protective equipment (PPE). A large percentage of community health workers are female and the nature of their work, moving on foot in communities, makes them extremely vulnerable to crime and violence.

Help us change that by donating to the Care Fund. This fund will protect the community health workers who are so dedicated to protecting communities. The Care Fund will support panic buttons, PPE, training and psychosocial services for community health workers.

A donation to the Care Fund provides care for the carers - a group of unsung heroes who are already making life better for so many others.
