In Food Security, there are Community Kitchens. These kitchens are critical spaces where communities can connect and exchange knowledge and information. They are also places where norms are queried, dialogues are happening, and voices for changing existing food systems are heard. Community kitchens' impact transcends food provision – it is a space able to restore dignity, build relationships, and empower and develop communities.
One of the Projects & Initiatives of Food Security is Community Kitchen Support. R6059 can support a community kitchen for an entire month.
The Kolisi Foundation provides monthly kitchen parcels and monthly kitchen stipends to 25 community kitchens. This year, we will establish community mapping referral systems and assess the needs of community kitchens to pilot increasing nutritional value and food preparation safety through food preparer training and the provision of essential equipment and storage.
