The Anna Foundation faciltates after-school programmes on farms and in rural South African areas to support the holistic development of rural children through Educational, Sports and Life Skills support. The Foundation trains and employs rural women living on farms to facilitate their programme on a daily basis. Every afternoon of the week, the children are welcomed to the after-school with a cooked meal. After they have received this nutritional support, they begin with the Educational, Sports and Life Skills activities of the "3 Rs Programme: Reading, Running, Right-ing". 

South African rural areas are largely underserviced and under-resourced, and their children's development is suffering as a result. It is common for these children to be taught in multi-grade classrooms, and so often their academic potential is stunted. An international study measuring reading literacy levels scored South Africa the lowest out of 50 countries globally. The "Progress in International Reading Literacy Study" measured literacy levels between 2011 and 2016 and found that 78% of the grade 4 pupils who took part were illiterate. 

The Anna Foundation's after-schools are critical and hugely beneficial in providing additional literacy and numeracy support, making resource material available for school tasks, encouraging a healthy lifestyle through sports, and teaching children valuable life skills which will equip them for their future.

All funds raised through the GivenGain platform will be used to equip our after-school projects with the resources needed to successfully run our "3 R's Programme: Reading, Running, Right-ing". This includes the purchase of educational resources and games, sports equipment, resources for life skills lessons, training of the rural women who facilitate our programmes, infrastructure and the children's wellbeing.
