Township Roots is a registered organisation, we work with primary schools in Nyanga, incorporating Philippi community where there’s high rate of crime, learners drop out from school and lack of sports development and facilities has affected the youth drastically. As a result, highly capable and motivated performers often enter spheres of gang-sterism and crime or give up on their future completely.
Most schools in Nyanga are under-serviced in terms of non-formal educational opportunities. And children, some as young as 12 years have dropped out of school. Our aim is to motivate participation of learners in extra-mural activities as means to help reduce early dropout in schools. By raising awareness and increasing practical skills, “We believe that if we can keep children in school, we can keep them out of crime”. And thus making their learning experience fun and memorable.
