St. Thomas’ Home for Children is a place of love and protection for children in need of care.

We are a non-profit organisation providing residential care to 60 vulnerable children between the ages 2-10 years, all of whom have been found in need of care by the courts. Our children require our care for a variety of reasons, from being orphaned, abandoned or neglected to being physically, sexually or emotionally abused.

Our services include:

• Physical care including food, shelter, and appropriate clothing for each season
• A Social Worker to facilitate individual development plans specifically designed for each child’s unique development and care management
• Therapeutic programmes for our children, including  accessing specialised services such as speech and language therapy; psychological services; and occupational therapy
• Educational and homework support, including accessing educational and psycho-social assessments; and sourcing special learning needs facilities where required
• Provision of  remedial “back-to-basics” classes to combat the educational challenges that many of our children face
• Recreational opportunities
• An on-site pre-school for our younger children, with a qualified and dedicated pre-school teacher and assistant
• Broad-based medical care - a mammoth task with many HIV+ children; those suffering from TB; asthma; and other chronic illnesses such as lung and heart disease; not to mention the immunisations, dental visits and common childhood illnesses such as chicken pox and flu
• Life-skills programmes that will enable them to return, as capable and productive members, to the broader community
• Reunification services to enable children to return to the community, either to their biological families, where possible, or to foster families or Community Homes
• Supervision, love and care from dedicated Child and Youth Care Workers
