SCAS was founded in 1985 by a group of Christian sportsmen and women. At first, fellowship with like-minded people was their main motivation for getting together, but with time it dawned on them that sport was, in fact, an excellent platform from which to spread the Gospel of Christ. Testifying to the goodness of God in public soon established these men and women as positive role models in the eyes of the adoring public, giving SCAS the kind of credibility and visibility that has seen the organization evolve into the diverse ministry that it is today. SCAS is an inter-racial and inter-denominational ministry run by a small group of full-time staff who mobilizes and relies on volunteers to spread the Gospel message of God’s love.
Vision: To serve and glorify God by making disciples through sport.
Mission: To lead people in sport into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
Our relationships will demonstrate steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through Love, Servanthood, Integrity, Excellence and Community.
Love – We will demonstrate God’s love as modelled by Jesus. (Matthew 22:37-39)
Servanthood - We will model Jesus’ example of serving. (John 13:1-17)
Integrity - We will demonstrate Christ-like wholeness, privately and publicly. (Proverbs 11:3)
Excellence - We will honour and glorify God in all we do. (Colossians 3:23-24)
Community - We will express unity in Christ in all our relationships. (Philippians 2:1-4)
Strategy: To love and serve people in sport in order to help them understand that life’s greatest gift is Christ’s love and life’s greatest joy is sharing it.
We seek to make disciples through our methods of engaging, equipping and empowering people in the world of sport to know and grow in Christ and lead others to do the same.
Engage (1 Thessalonians 2:8)
We engage relationally by connecting with individuals and through events in many different environments by building trust, sharing our lives and sharing the gospel. We strive to connect with people where they are on their spiritual journey.
Equip (Ephesians 4:12)
After cultivating relationships and people come to faith in Christ, we want to equip them with Christ-centered training, events, resources and on-going support in what it means to be a follower of Christ, growing in God’s Word and applying it to life.
Empower (2 Timothy 2:2)
Once equipped, we empower faithful leaders who desire to use their time, talents and treasures to help other people in the world of sport to experience the gospel, grow in their faith and share Him with others. We desire to develop disciples who make disciples, assisting them so that they can in turn engage, equip and empower others to know and grow in Christ and lead others to do the same.
How we do it: We mobilise, equip and empower volunteers and thereafter create various platforms for them to inspire people in the world of sport to follow Jesus Christ.Vision
