READ to RISE is a non-profit organisation that promotes youth literacy in under-resourced communities in South Africa. We aim to inspire children to read and give them access to new, high quality, age-appropriate books.
We don't just drop off the books, we visit classes and have interactive sessions with learners. At the end of the session we give them their own book to take home.
We also place Mini-Libraries with 50 new readers in every class.
Our programme has been endorsed by the Department of Basic Education.
To date, we have visited over 1,800 classes in Mitchells Plain and Soweto and given out over 96,000 new books.
