Panthera Africa is a big cat sanctuary for any captive bred big cats in need of rescue. Animal welfare is our top priority. The big cats will be protected and prosper for the rest of their lives at Panthera Africa!
One of Panthera Africa's main purposes is to be an educational platform where we create awareness about conditions big cats face in captivity, and how animal welfare and enrichment play a vital role in giving them the best captive life possible. We are a true sanctuary where no cub petting, breeding or trading takes place.
Panthera Africa's main purpose is to create awareness around the critical conditions big cats face in captivity, especially in South Africa, and urge people to support ethical tourism and sanctuaries all over the world, and spread the important awareness together with us!
It is important to inform you that the many cub petting-farms all around South Africa as using good, however, unethical marketing tools to lure volunteers and tourists to them purely for making money. And unknowingly, tourists and volunteers are actually habituating many of the animals to become easy targets for the trophy hunting industry. Did you know that the cubs get taken away from the mother to be hand reared, even though she can take care of them? This also leaves the mothers ready to breed again within two week, which means she will give birth up to three times a year! The adorable cubs are used as a marketing tool all over the world to attract
thousands of tourists and volunteers to "save" them as they are stated to have been abandoned.
As the human consciousness is rising, the public eye is increasingly focusing on ethical tourism and animal welfare, and with campaigns, organisations and documentaries, like Blood Lions and Captured in Africa, the awareness is spreading fare and wide. Wildlife in circuses are coming to an end as people protest and take a stand against these practices, and the standards and regulations of zoos are improving as it is what the public is expecting and demanding.
With Panthera Africa’s educational visits and volunteer project we spread the important awareness for animal welfare and human consciousness, and we unite with everyone that speaks on behalf of the animals and nature as a whole. It is motivating and inspiring to see the changes happening in people’s minds, and truly feel the support we get for all over the world. We look forward to the day when laws against breeding and all interaction are established, and when we all have turned all breeding facilities into beautiful sanctuaries and the animals can prosper for the rest of their lives under the African sun.
As our slogan states - "In unity there is strength" - and by standing together, human and animal, we believe in the possibility of a prosperous future, and we take pride in
'speaking' on their behalf.
