The Shoebox of Love Programme (commonly known as ‘Shoebox’) is an initiative of Operation Shoebox, an independent, accredited non-profit organisation registered in South Africa. Founded in 2006, the Shoebox of Love Programme strives to create Christmas magic for vulnerable children and old age pensioners across the Western Cape.
How it works:
You can register to ‘adopt’ a vulnerable child between 17 August and 31 October each year. You will be provided with the child’s name, age, gender, grade at school, their favourite colour, hobby, clothing and shoe size, and ‘likes’ enabling you to make up a customised gift for them. This gift should be packed in a cheerfully decorated shoebox. Should you choose to ‘adopt’ a granny or grandpa, your gift items should be placed in a gift bag. You will be given guidelines on how to make up their gift and what to include. These gifts will be distributed to homes and care centres, in the Western Cape, during November and December.
Operation Shoebox is not affiliated with any other similiar project or organisation. Our marketing material, flyers, website and other collateral all carries our name, our very distinctive ribbon device logo and our NGO number - if it doesn't say Operation Shoebox, it's not us.
