LIV Village
Charity profile
UNICEF statistics (2013) revealthat there are an estimated 3,7million orphans in South Africa, 1.85 million of whom have lost one or both parents to AIDS, while a further 150 000 children are believed to be living in child- headed households. It is against this background that Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV) was founded. LIV is partnering with government, business and the church, to provide urgently needed holistic residential care, on a large scale, for the hundreds of vulnerable and parentless children, with the core vision to Rescue a child, Restore a life, Raise a leader and Release a star.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
LIV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. Our mission, purpose and passion is to place vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing and where all their physical needs are taken care of. We want to equip these children with essential moral values and life skills in order that they truly can live lives that will influence and inspire others.
OUR HISTORY AND CREDIBILITY
LIV Village has been in operation since 2010. It is located 8km outside Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, in the community of Cottonlands. LIV (www.liv-village.com) is a registered nonprofit company as defined in the Companies Act, 2008, with a Board of Directors ensuring good governance, transparency and credibility. Deloitte are the appointed auditors.
OUR PROGRESS
The 96 environmentally friendly homes are complete with 35 house mothers and a team of relief mothers, as well as others in training, and more than 160 children in residence. Emphasis is being placed on a level of excellence in education. Our Preparatory school is booming with 22 classrooms, as well as a fully fitted out library, computer room, art room, woodwork room and music centre, with dedicated and talented teachers. The Senior School is expanding each year, and we now have classes from Grade 8-10. The LIV Children’s choir is gaining stardom and being invited to perform at key cultural events across the region. Our Early Childhood Development Centre is running beautifully. Our nurses, psychologists, counsellors and social workers are facilitating our vision of holistic healing for our children in the LIV Health Care Centre. We have also recently built a Community Clinic which will provide primary health care for the community surrounding the Village. The Multi-purpose Hall is complete and the Finance, Administration and Marketing teams have moved into the adjacent office block. Our vegetable gardens are flourishing as we work towards self-sustainability. The LIV Culinary School was started at the beginning of 2016 in association with the International Hotel School to train 20 community members. They will receive an accredited chef’s training. This venture will aim to provide future employment for both our LIV children as they grow up and for our local community in need. The LIV Church with Promise Land Kids Church on the Village is thriving and making a meaningful impact on the neighbouring community in Cottonlands.
LIV BUSINESS PTY (LTD)
LIV Business has been established to focus on our mission of being a self-sustainable Village; to provide skills training and employment, including future vocational training, for the immediate and surrounding communities. The core purpose of each business is to contribute positively to the running of LIV Village, that we may realize our calling of building many Villages across South Africa that will also be places of restoration. LIV Business is owned 100% by LIV Village, thereby making the children full beneficiaries of all profits from the business. This also means, through Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) legislation, the businesses that are started and owned by LIV, are level 2 B-BBEE contributors, making us the ideal organisation to partner with. Some of the businesses that we have established are LIV Moringa, LIV Cucumbers (LIV Agriculture), LIV Labels, LIV Pottery and Crafts and LIV Clean.
