- Lily of the Valley Children's Village -

WHO WE ARE:

Lily of the Valley provides children and young adults with the holistic care they need to unlock their true potential. By raising them in a Christ-centered, healthy environment and ensuring that we impart the values and skills they need to succeed, they are able to grow into well-adjusted and contributing members of society.

Our experience and positive ties with the government mean that we’re able to work effectively within our community. Ultimately, our hands-on work gives partners and supporters a tangible way to invest in the future generation.

OUR PROJECTS

GIVE A CHILD A HOME
Residential care, creating a surrogate family
The "Give a child a home" program focuses on providing a community-focused environment for each child where they learn to feel and understand what caring for each other is all about. The Senior Child Care Worker ensures each house mother provides the best care and that each home spends daily family time doing age-appropriate activities. This includes developing a household routine including family mealtimes, reading or storytelling, outdoor time, etc.

KEEP A KID HEALTHY
Medical Management Programme
This program falls under our medical and health management department. Lily of the Valley has an on-site clinic, including a pharmacy, which is overseen by our Medical Coordinator and part-time Doctor to assess each child's needs and establish a care plan. The children often come to Lily in a very poor physical state. This is due to neglect, abuse, or poverty in their family environment, leading to inadequate nutrition or medical care, especially for those that are HIV positive or disabled.

We believe that no matter what illness or disability a child in our care has, each one deserves to be given the best chance at becoming a whole and healthy adult. For the kids at Lily the first step is often ensuring they get the correct medical treatment and nutritional care to get and keep them healthy. Each one of our children is regularly assessed and our medical department coordinates the needed visits to specialists for the right treatments.

GIVE A CHILD AN EDUCATION
ECD, Primary and High School
Our educational support starts from our on-site Early Childhood Development facility right through to our iLaunch program, which is aimed at helping young adults make career choices and, preparing them for the life of work.

Apart from that we already provide homework/ study support individually and in small groups. We are also constantly looking for opportunities to send our children to better quality schools.
Lily of the Valley is currently starting off with our new Early Childhood Development program with the support and guidance of Education advisor Janet van Heerden. She will be training the education staff in the program. Janet will also be helping us to register the ECD program with the Department of Social Development, which may have their own benefits for Lily.

EMPOWER A LIFE WITH RESILIENCE
Lifeskills and Mentoring for long term survival
Our Youth Development program focuses on helping our kids to develop a healthy lifestyle, good social interaction, resilience, teamwork, and various other Life-skills. This is coordinated through activities including arts and crafts, drama and dance, sports, and various other activities.

We aim to give as much individual support as needed for the young adults to grow on their way to their adult independent life outside of Lily. Some of our services are career testing, job shadowing, and work experience. Practical training like "taking public transport" and budgeting are also part of our program. Moreover, we help the young people to settle into their new lives outside helping them practically and empowering them to find their own ways.

Spiritual Discipleship for a Christ-cantered life
We believe that faith is the center of a resilient life in independence therefore we have specific activities that we do to inspire spiritual growth. We have a full-time Pastor that heads up our spiritual life department. Weekly spiritual activities include a church service, youth on Fridays, Bible studies, and Sunday school. Moreover, we take our youth out to visit different churches, send the children to other spiritual events throughout the year such as conferences and Christian camps.
