Hotel Hope Ministries is a non-profit organisation working hard to ensure that each and every child is brought up in a safe, happy and healthy home so that they can grow up and develop into responsible and positive adults.
Although orphaned and abandoned children are our main focus, we have a holistic approach to the problem. We realise that we need to focus on the cause of the problem too and not only the symptoms. So we have projects to focus on assisting Mothers and Fathers, so that they can look after their themselves and so look after their children themselves.
We have 3 areas of activity:
First class children’s homes:
Our children's foster home is in Melville, we have a capacity for up to 18 orphaned or abandonded babies between the ages of 0 and 4 years old. We have worked hard to create a warm and loving home environment and not a cold institution. In this home, we will ensure that every child in our care is fed, clothed and loved until we can find them a permanent adoptative family. . Where possible and appropriate we aim to reunite children with their biological families, otherwise we look for permanent adoptive families for the children.
Pregnant mothers in crisis & counseling centres:
We successfully operate our ‘Pregnant Mothers in Crisis’ program with a focus on High schools in the Alexandra Township. We have touched the lives of over 120 mothers already and look after their physical, emotional, spiritual and to a limited extent their financial needs. The aim of these ministries is to, through a ‘holistic’ approach, save lives of destitute , HIV & AIDS infected and affected babies, by first caring for destitute pregnant mothers through counselling in counselling centres, assisting in their immediate care and spiritual needs, to empower them to care for their babies, ministering and assisting them before birth and after. Interventions range from:
- Training schemes, including life skills
- Job creation
- Confidential HIV testing
- Advise around pregnancy, childbirth, childcare
- Hosting in women’s shelters with whom we network
Social Enterprise (Training academy and charity shop)
Through training the aim is to assist mothers and fathers to be financially independent, being able to care for themselves and their babies / children, either through secure jobs or through entrepreneurship. Through seed funds mothers will be assisted to set up their enterprises. In the same way training will be offered to fathers, to be able to support the family structure. The training academy has successfully trained numerous men & women so that they can be empowered. New training opportunities exist in candle making as well as sewing.
Our 2 charity shops in Melville has established itself as a community project in its own right. We have been able to create 4 full-time jobs, enabling previously unemployed people to be financially independent. The shops also serves the community, as the vast majority of our clients are coming from low income groups and through the shop are able to afford high-quality items at low prices, as the majority of items have been donated by corporates, individuals, churches and the like. Through the charity shops HHM can fund some of the expenses incurred through the ministries, such as covering the administrative costs and salaries.
