The Highveld Horse Care Unit (HHCU) is the largest equine welfare organisation in the Southern Hemisphere. The HHCU is a registered non-profit organisation established in 1991, in Meyerton, south of Johannesburg.
Our team is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of horses and donkeys throughout South Africa. We are involved in all matters related to equine welfare including; inspection & investigation of reports of cruelty, abuse or neglect; outreach & education in previously disadvantaged communities; rehabilitation and rehoming of confiscated horses, donkeys & ponies, as well as rehoming retired Thoroughbreds once they have finished their racing careers.
On the 32 acre HHCU farm, we have clinic facilities, a resident farrier and vet, lunge arena as well as paddocks and stabling for 40 horses. We are currently completing our dressage arena and will soon be working on a showjumping arena, and our new tack shop.
