The Cochlear Implant Unit, based at Tygerberg Hospital in the Western Cape (South Africa) provides cochlear implants for suitable young and adult candidates. Despite their life changing effect, cochlear implants are prohibitively expensive and unfortunately state services can provide very limited funding only. Most candidates do not have access to private medical aid either, and therefore we rely heavily on donor funding to provide this service. The unit is able to raise funds through the Stellenbosch Trust, a registered charity of Stellenbosch University.
