Baby Ethan Foundation was founded by Janine Freed who was moved by the birth of her son Ethan. Ethan was born at 27 weeks, weighing 1.06kgs and spent over 3 months in the Morningside Neonatal ICU (NICU) in June 2010. Ethan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and had to undergo a number of procedures.Through this experience, Janine decided that she was determined to assist these sick and premature babies and their parents / legal guardians, who are admitted to the NICU and who may not have access to basic necessities such as baby blankets, baby grows, and basic toiletries.
The foundation values the staff working in the NNICU as well as the parents of the babies in the wards. The Foundation’s visions are;
• To facilitate a conducive, pleasant environment for premature and sick babies to flourish within the NICU’s
• To create a “happy” working environment for NICU staff which engenders commitment and care towards their tiny patients and their parents
• To create a friendly and warm environment in which parents can care for their babies whilst in the NICU
• To strengthen our partnerships, and develop new ones, between the foundation and the hospitals.
