Loyal friend, invaluable colleague, devoted wife, Champagne guru, proud grandmother, loving mother, sporting fanatic - Denise Janes was all these and more to so many people. Because of her I learnt to walk in her Johannesburg house, began a lifelong weakness for Champagne, was introduced to beautiful South Africa and am now cycling the Cape Town Cycle Tour (still unofficially called The Cape Argus).
Since Denise's death not a day has gone by without her being in the thoughts of those who had the delight of knowing her. Like too many people she eventually lost a fight to cancer and it is for South African cancer charity CANSA that I am raising funds, hoping that in some way I can contribute to fighting this evil.
It may surprise some of you that I’m not actually a cycle lover but Denise often talked of the magic of The Argus; it is in her memory and in solidarity with the fight cancer sufferers face that I am fighting the 100km+ Cape Argus.
Unfortunately, everyone of us has been affected directly or indirectly by cancer. Please, in whatever way you can, join me in this long battle against cancer by donating to CANSA.
