MAD2Cycle - Jozi to Cape Town by bike

Inaugural Tour
23rd to 30th March 2018

MAD2Cycle is a fundraising event, for which the sole beneficiary is the MAD Leadership Foundation (MAD). MAD, started by Francois Pienaar in 2003, is a holistic full investment scholarship programme that identifies academically talented scholars with leadership potential who lack financial resources. The philosophy of MAD is to change South Africa - one scholar at a time. For more information please go to

MAD2Cycle is an extreme mental and physical challenge. The journey itself is 1500km long, from Johannesburg to Cape Town, and all within 7 days. This is a journey unlike any other cycle tour in that it is 50% on road and 50% off road. Each cyclist requires both a road and mountain bike, as with each day comes a new terrain; and in each day the peloton will ride between 140km and 250km. And, as if that isn’t enough, each athlete is challenged to run the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon (OMTOM) or at least the half marathon of 21 km on Easter Saturday on 31 March 2018.

I enjoy riding my bicycle and, particularly, I enjoy multistage events because they are both physically and mentally challenging. To be able to raise funds for a worthwhile cause whilst riding makes it all so much more rewarding. That is why I accepted the invitation to the MAD2Cycle challenge.

I am asking you to support the MAD Leadership Foundation by making a direct donation via this website. Further, I ask you to chat to your friends, colleagues and family and to direct them to this site. Hopefully they, too, will feel MADly inspired to support the foundation.

As the MAD Leadership Foundation is a registered Public Benefit
Organisation certain donations made are tax deductible for the donor in terms of Section 18(A) of the Income Tax Act of South Africa. Details are available from or let me have a proof of payment and I will arrange the certificate.
