Education - a powerful weapon

My name is Tina, I’m 26 and I come from Denmark.

For the past two years I’ve been working as a educare intern for an NPO called SAVE Foundation. This is my story.

In December 2014 I decided to do volunteering and a few months later I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, where I started my time as a surf and adventure volunteer for 5 weeks. I clearly remember my first day on the project. I was on a school called Babes with 4 other volunteers and 60 kids, dancing, singing and teaching. My time as a volunteer went by so fast and before I knew it, I was continuing my travels as a backpacker in Asia. I returned
home after 5 months of travelling with my thoughts, mind and heart still in the
    township Dunoon in South Africa.

The winter came and one day I decided to book my
next trip to Cape Town. I clearly wasn’t done with my work, I could do more. I stayed for 2 months as a volunteer on a school called Wings of Hope and fell in love with the schools and the community more day by day. The 2 months ran by and it was time to return home again, but
only for a short period of time.

In September 2016 I came back to SAVE as a educare intern and now my time with SAVE and the schools in Dunoon is coming to its end. During my time with SAVE I learned a lot more than I could have imagined. My backpack is filled with a lot of good memories and experiences, that I now will take with me back home as I start my studies. I’m forever grateful for everything I learned from planning school programs, arranging different activities for the kids, planning programs for the volunteers, working with different personalities,
cultures and nationalities and so much more.

2018 is around the corner and I would love to be able to give my projects one last thing before going back home. This is my chance of giving the schools a clean plate and starting the new year with new
toys and materials. I am looking for toys and educational tools for kids aged from 0 to 6 years to keep the schools and programs running.

Here is a list of the things I would like to give to the schools:

    - Stimulation toys (babies )
    - Cars
    - Dolls
    - Playdough + toys
    - Lego
    - Play kitchen /shop
    - Building blocks
    - Books
    - Coloring books
    - Outdoor toys

Please help me get the kids what they need by sharing this post or giving a small donation. Even a small amount will help these schools to start the year with new tools and energy.

Thank you for sharing and donating.
