This solo swim on Friday the 8th December will start at Bakoven beach below NSRI Station 2’s slipway and head towards the V&A Waterfront; passing Clifton, Bantry Bay, Mouille Point light house and continuing around the harbour wall; exiting at the Station 3 slipway.
The estimated distance is +/- 14 km and will be done in a cap, googles and swimming costume. The major challenge will be dealing with the cold sea temperature of the Atlantic, without the protection of a wetsuit.
Derrick Frazer from Big Bay Events, will be alongside me the entire swim in a support and safety boat.
The aim of the swim is to help raise funds for fellow crew members personal protection gear. This gear includes wetsuits, lifejackets, helmets, foul weather jackets, booties and gloves, which are vital in protecting the crew against the harsh weather conditions whilst they are out at sea.
It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to make a donation and help keep our crews safe.
We will also be using the NSRI’s free RSA SafeTrx App.
This smart phone App allows sea users to enter their route details and leave shore knowing that at the push of a button they can call for help. If they fail to return by the given time, the Emergency Contact Person will be alerted and advised to initiate appropriate action.
The Emergency Contact Person can also call the MRCC concerning an overdue trip, the MRCC will have access to your location and SafeTrx Trip data through a secure SafeTrx server. Since the RSA SafeTrx app periodically sends your location data back to our servers, the NSRI’s response team can get help directly to you, and quickly.
