This project has been rescuing Vervet Monkeys since 1995. Rescues are done at an average of at least one a day however it is not uncommon for between three to eight rescues to be done on a single day. Furthermore, Monkey Helpline has educated tens of thousands of people about Vervet monkeys - offering advice over the phone or on site, distributing the Monkey Helpline information and advice leaflets, visiting people at their homes to help resolve problems with vervets, selectively trapping so-called "problem" Vervets, talking at schools, municipalities, public meetings, to special interest groups, AGM's and body corporates, as well as initiating media coverage and more. There has been ongoing liaison with conservation authorities, and as a consequence, in many instances, they refer complaints and enquiries directly to the Monkey Helpline rather than routinely following a trapping and/or shooting policy as was done in the past.
