Every year CANSA Research spends more than four million of rands on cancer research. We currently fund and support thirty-one research projects at universities and other research institutions across South Africa concerning epidemiology, early detection and prevention of cancer. These projects are defined as Type A research. We are one of the largest sponsors of this kind of research in the country.
CANSA-funded research has yielded incredible findings, a case in point being the identification of Hepatitis B infection as a major risk factor for liver cancer. This led to the development of a vaccine, which has now been incorporated into the government’s infant immunisation programme. Many lives will be saved as a result. Read more...
In this section you can discover more about the work of our world-class researchers, their progress, and the impact their research has made in the struggle against cancer.

If the body had a different diet to a cancer cell, cancer could be cured by feeding the body only its special diet and starving the cancer cell. Unfortunately this is not the case. The cancer cell like any normal cell requires all the nutrients that a normal cell requires.
Cancer cells particularly like glucose as a main source of energy. However, so does the brain. If you starve the body of glucose, the brain will shut down. We know of no food that can cure cancer. If this were the case, such a cure would be used by all. We do know of food substances that can work together with conventional cancer therapy to cure cancer. Such substances are for example curcumin from tumeric.
I do agree that cancer patients are given little information concerning what they can do to help fight the cancer other than going to the oncologist. There is a recent new book written by a medical doctor who had brain cancer that touches on this subject . The details are: "Anti-cancer. A new way of Life" by Dr David Servant-Schreiber. One can order it from Amazon.com

We always seem to be concentrating on treating cancer with all sort of treatments that have the capacity to harm the body in some way or another in its attempt to kill the cancer, how often do we ask people what do u eat and how do you prepare your food?
that is except the carcinogens we expose our bodies to on a daily basis by the products we use in our home for cooking to health care products.
it would be interesting to see how an inventory of a persons life style and his choice of food and products in his home would be compared to his state of healt and his cancer status. it would make for an interesting survey.
