FW de Klerk Foundation > Posts

On 2 February 2011, the Foundation hosted a very successful Gala Dinner, in Celebration of the 21st Anniversary of FW de Klerk's Speech that Initiated South Africa's Constitutional Transformation Proces.  The dinner was hosted at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands, Cape Town.

The guests were entertained by the amazing Gugulethu Tenors and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi made a toast to the new South Africa.  The first annual FW de Klerk Goodwill Award was presented to Dr Danny Jordaan and Dr Jordaan said a few words in reply, recalling anecdotes about Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and FW de Klerk during the preparations for the bid for the 2010 World Cup.

The Foundation also launched its Coffee Table Book during the evening, entitled The Things that Unite Us, in celebration of the Things that Unite Us as South Africans. A few copies are still available.

An historic ballot paper from 27 April 1994, signed by FW de Klerk, Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki, was auctioned and sold for R80 000.  Guests also stood a chance to win wonderful prizes sponsored by Grande Provence, Mantis Property, the Vineyard Hotel and Lourensford Wine Estate.
