Welcome to the South African National Parks (SANParks) Honorary Rangers (HR), a volunteer Public Benefit Organisation committed to sharing the Vision and Mission of SANParks.
The SANParks VISION is: South African National Parks connecting to society.
The SANParks MISSION is: To develop, manage and promote a system of national parks that represents the biodiversity and heritage assets by applying best practice, environmental justice, benefit sharing and sustainable use.
Currently over 1,200 Honorary Rangers operate nationwide in 31 regions, most of whom are active in their nearest park, while others engage in specific projects and national initiatives. Being such a large and widespread group, members adhere to a strict code of conduct and are required to complete a selection of courses to prepare them for involvement in the parks.
In 2011, we were proud to have been able to contribute over R38 million in sponsorships, donations and personal time to the SANParks bottom line. We achieved this by running Park Projects in line with our balanced scorecard objectives which mirror those of SANParks. This included our efforts in the area of environmental education which focuses on all cultures and creeds in the aftermath of apartheid.
We encourage you to browse through our list of HR Projects and contribute to one or more that you believe will enable you to help bring positive benefits to our work.
Why we volunteerIt’s not for money, not for fame
It’s not for any personal gain
It’s just for the love of nature
To make a difference where you can
It’s just to give up of thy self
That is something you can’t buy with wealth.
It’s not for medals worn with pride
It’s just for the feeling deep inside
It’s the reward deep in your heart
It’s feeling you have been a part
Of helping others far and near
That is what makes us volunteer
