Vuleka is a main stream primary school and exists to provide an excellent affordable education to children without access to good schooling in South Africa. Founded in 1989, Vuleka speaks to opening doors to new opportunities that inspire a brighter future. Today, Vuleka continues to beam light and hope in a nation that grapples with chronically under-funded and under-resourced schools; these symptoms are residues inherent to Black education under Apartheid.

One in six Vuleka learners is an orphan and forty percent receive fee support. Vuleka lends a stable, secure and nurturing environment to each learner. Six hundred pupils come from Johannesburg's surrounding townships, informal settlements, the inner city while a few are also refugee children from other parts of Africa.

Each year, Vuleka fund raises ZAR2, 580 for each child: our orphan children receive an automatic full merit scholarship. With a total of 600 learners at our school, Vuleka raises ZAR1.6 million as well as the full tuition fee for orphans. We are currently almost near the completion of our third primary school.

Vuleka prepares its learners to compete successfully and confidently at some of the top preparatory schools around the country. We achieve high standards through visionary leadership, small well resourced classes and trained dedicated teachers who love to teach. Vuleka has initiated a teacher empowerment program that sources new talent and coordinates mentoring, practical skills and teaching experience for trainees studying for their education degree.
