Fezeka kids are loved, well fed and being given a chance in a difficult life!

At the moment there are 75 kids at the Fezeka Educare Centre (Nomzamo/ Lwandle, South Africa).

The rebuilding of the buildings destroyed in the 2011 fires will allow the Grade R class to reopen and the other three classes to again grow.

Kids at Fezeka Educare Centre face many challenges:

  • They are from desperately poor families (In 2001, average household annual income was R0.00 - R25,490.03 and conditions have not improved much since then - StatsSA, Census 2001).
  • Violent crime is incredibly high (1 murder every 11 days, 1 rape every 4 days and HSPC reports that after 6.00pm, it is unsafe to send a child outdoors, for fear of violence or theft - SAPS Stats 2010/2011 and HSPC).
  • Many parents have not had schooling (In 2001, 26.11% - 69.21% of adults over 20 years old in Lwandle had no schooling - StatsSA, Census 2001).

Despite all the challenges, kids at the Fezeka Educare Centre are loved, well fed and being given a chance in a difficult life!
