Introducing our new Facebook app

We've all seen the massive role that social media can play in raising awareness for a cause.

Today, we're happy to announce a new, better GivenGain Facebook Application that allows both causes and activists to add their GivenGain profiles, projects, or posts as a Facebook Page Tab.

After the muted release of version one of the GivenGain API, we've orginally built a simple proof of concept Facebook application that allowed causes to show off their GivenGain profiles. Being well aware of the limitations of this implementation, and seeing more and more requests from activists for a way to display their projects and progress on Facebook as well, we've been hard at work to bring you a better, easier to use Facebook application. A few things have happened to make this possible, the most notable being the continued development of the API, and the infrastructure that the GivenGain environment exists in.

So, what are the main features of the new GivenGain Facebook Application?

  • Supports both cause and activist accounts
  • Simple login and setup
  • Display your activist profile, or one of your activist projects, as a Facebook Page Tab
  • Display your cause profile, one of your cause projects, or a cause news post as a Facebook Page Tab
  • Visitors to your Page Tab can browse to related profiles, projects, and posts without leaving Facebook

To integrate GivenGain on to your Facebook page, you’ll need the following:

Please note that you can only have one GivenGain App installed per Facebook Page.

Here's how you can add the GivenGain Facebook Application to your Facebook Page:

  1. Go to or simply search for the "GivenGain" Application on Facebook
  2. Click on the "Add GivenGain to your Page" button
  3. In the dialog that pops up, choose one (or more) Pages to add GivenGain to
  4. Click the "Add Page Tab" button
  5. Go to each of the Pages that you've added GivenGain to
  6. On each Page look for, and click the new GivenGain Icon to switch to the GivenGain Page Tab
  7. Click the "Let's get started" button
  8. Log in with your GivenGain activist (or cause) account (cause main administrator only)
  9. Click the Allow button on the GivenGain authorization dialog that appears
  10. Set up your GivenGain Page Tab as you prefer, and click Save

That's it! You're done. Now click on Home (top right) to see what your Page visitors will see.

We've tried to make it as easy and intuitive as possible to get up and running fast, but - if you're having trouble - don't hesitate to contact support for help. As a side note, we'll be discontinuing the old Facebook application ("GivenGain for Causes") in about a week's time, so make sure you uninstall it from your Page and add the new application.

Here's how you can uninstall the old GivenGain for Causes application from your Facebook Page:

  1. Go to your Facebook Fan Page and click on the triangle on the right of the tab bar so that the triangle points upwards
  2. Hover your cursor over the existing GivenGain tab and click on the pencil icon
  3. Click on Uninstall App
  4. When done, search for the GivenGain App on Facebook to get started
