Gauteng: Northern Gauteng: Tough Living with Cancer (TLC)

44,248.00 ZAR raised so far, with 8 Activists helping out

Approximately 1 000 children in South Africa are diagnosed with cancer each year although due to lack of early diagnosis, this figure could be closer to 1 600. The good news is that if childhood cancer is detected and treated early, there is a good chance of recovering fully.

CANSA runs the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) project in Gauteng to significantly reduce the impact of cancer on children and their families in the community (mostly in the Kalefong Hospital in Pretoria). This project covers the needs of all the children in the oncology children’s ward who require treatment and are not covered by Medical Aid.

The project is very comprehensive and offers the child and his/her family with the necessary assistive devices, support and information. CANSA hopes to extend this project to the rest of the country in coming years. The TLC project clearly demonstrates how with the right knowledge, support and stimulation, children and their families can be motivated and empowered to fight cancer.

Smile - It is a wonderful experience to be rewarded with such a spontaneous beautiful smile, offered by a little oncology patient who receives support in the TLC project
