Rhinos are being wiped out in Southern Africa at an alarming rate, and we've lost over 1000 in the last 4 years. Worse, Africa has lost over 100,000 over the last 40 years since the CITES ban was instituted.
Rhinos are an iconic species, part of our Big Five, the face to our ZAR10 note, and an indicator of the pressure we face with increasing poverty, reduced understanding of the value of wilderness and ecosystems. We're not going to change century old cultures and beliefs, but we can build our own local communities to benefit from the value of rhino, as a tourism drawcard, and a part of our wonderful wilderness.
This campaign is part of a broader campaign to build resilient communities on the edges of reserves, to reduce their reliance on tourism and create natural resource based economies, based on sustainable use. ACT is at the forefront of this effort and we're building future agro-ecological farmers, with a great bunch of wildly excited ecowarriors and farmers.
Give to this campaign and we'll equip, train and mentor thousands of rural community members. We'll plant 1 million indigenous fruit trees, and create a ZAR100 million economy! Without massive environmental damage!! Get educated, GO BIG or STAY HOME!
