Arrie, die een is op jou ou maat. Dankie weereens, ek waardeer jou ondersteuning geweldig. Met jou en ander se hulp staan ons nou op £220.00… ongeveer 4400+ maaltye ;-)
Shake It… your wallets, purses, piggy banks, couches!
We all have it; some loose change lying around the house. Well why not put it to good use by supporting my personal challenge to raise £10,000.00 by the end of 2010?
My chosen nonprofit organization for this year is FoodBank South Africa.
FoodBank South Africa is a not-for-profit company launched in March 2009 to solve the problem of 14 million people in South Africa that do not know where their next meal will come from. FoodBank South Africa source huge volumes of donated food and at present distributes it efficiently via the four foodbanks in South Africa already established in the four biggest cities. They are currently working in 10 other centres to form additional foodbanks, with an aim to launch a minimum of 20 foodbanks by 31 December 2011.
Those that know me well know that I very seldom if ever back away from a challenge.
I’ve recently read an article in which the author expressed a view that the world suffers from what he called “donation fatigue”. That same day, a friend and I went for coffee and when we got out of her car I noticed roughly £5 worth of small change laying under the passenger seat in-between the toddlers toys. I’ve thought about it and decided that although I agree in today’s economic climate, people do not necessarily have large sums of money to just give away, most of us do have loose change lying around, be it in and around the house, right now in your wallet, in-between the couch seats etc.
Who said one cannot donate small amounts? And so the idea of “Shake It…” was born. If each of us can just shake our wallets, purses, piggy banks, couches etc. for loose change and then donate what we found, what a difference it could make?
By 30 November 2009, every R1 (ZAR) donated to FoodBank South Africa enabled them to utilise donated food worth upwards of R12 (ZAR). They donated 15.5 million cumulative meals in 2009. With donations received, FoodBank South Africa could donate:
• 1.7 meals for every rand received
• Over 12 meals for every US dollar received
• Over 20 meals for every British pound received
So my challenge to you: for every £10 sponsored through my “Shake It…” project page, I will donate £1 until we’ve cleared the £1000.00 that I have set aside for my charity challenge of the year. Help me spend it ;-)
Last but not least, please feel free to send this invitation to any or all of your contacts as well. I know Rome was not built in a day, but let’s go for broke!
Warm Regards,
Maryna
