Help raise funds to support Okuhle Mayaiji from Kayamandi, Stellenbosch!
To assist The Rockstar Foundation in funding this smart little 9-year old girl's primary, high school and eventually tertiary education, I would like to raise funds by running my first marathon on 25 September, 2011 in Cape Town.
I believe that - with the help of her community - the dedication, strength and potential that got Okuhle this far, will allow her to become an educated woman who, in turn, will make a positive contribution to her own community one day.
Please be a part of her story, by making a financial contribution (of any size) to my Running Rockstar project.
Many thanks,
Anita

Thanks to a fabulous donation by my longtime friend Tertius (a glass of gratitude red wine is waiting for you in the winelands), I'm now just R20 away from reaching the R4220 goal. :D
In marathon terms I'd be half an athletics track (200m) away from the end, my tongue dragging on the ground, my body begging me to stop but my mind jubilant at the sight of the finish line.
I thought of donating the last R20 myself but decided to donate it to another activist's project instead and encourage a lone random individual out there (unknowingly destined by fate!) to sacrifice that coffee and muffin this week. Will it be you? :)
Not wanting to get annoyingly repetitive -thanks so much for all the donations. It's fabulous to be reminded of the vast generosity of my friends, family, acquaintances and even random strangers.

What a fantastic response. Thanks so so much to Annele (my traithlon idol), my best bud SuperJaco, Amanda (aka that other lady/ & great running partner) and the very generous(!) Ronel and my 2 knees for your contributions. You've catapulted this project to being a mere R400 away from goal. Woohoo!
From the training side, after a slightly painful post-long run Monday, the body has recovered and the knees are happy once again. Less than 3 weeks to go - excited!

Only 19 days to go!

Time is also running out for reaching the goal amount of R4200 in support of the education of talented little 9-year old Okuhle Mayiji from The Rockstar Foundation.
So to those who indicated that they'd like to make a donation, now would be a great time.
If you feel you could get away with one less coffee and muffin this week, every extra Rand that goes towards my running fund-raising project will be greatly appreciated.
And if you have stacks of cash lying around with no idea what to do with it...I could help out with that ;)
Again, thanks so much for supporting my training efforts these past few months, whether it be through Givengain donation, being out on the road with me, following the blog, listening to my endless chatter about running or all of the above.
Much love,
Anita

Thank you to friends Deon, Leigh and Annette for your generosity. And also to tech-wizard Albert from the Givengain group, who helps make online donation possible.
Greatly appreciated.
On another note, the running is, once more, coming along nicely after a short-lived snotty-nosed cold last week. Yesterday was Tempo run day - the cauliflower of training sessions (yucky!)I'm more of a slow long run type.
But powered through and came out the other end feeling strong.

2 months and 18 days to go!
Stay cool (or warm in this weather, in fact)
And keep on giving!

When I checked my e-mail last night and saw all the donation notification, this overwhelming generosity of spirit literally left me smiling uncontrollably.
Thank you ever so much for your donations: Marilyn (all the way over the cables from the USA), Chris (my buddy in all things running :), (Super)Jaco! and the very generous donation from my sister Marié who, with 2 little girls of her own, also has a passion for the raising of kind, generous but strong young ladies.
Many many thanks and please continue spreading the word!
